Dcraw manual white balance

 · I have a PowerShot A IS and I want to extract it's tunsten white balance multipliers. I set the white balance to Tungsten on the camera, and took a few sample shots. The problem is I'm not getting consistent multipliers. dcraw -v -i shows different multipliers for each image. Camera multipliers: White balance. dcraw applies a white balance by simple channel multiplication in linear colorspace, before de-Bayering and conversion to sRGB or whatever. It can get the multipliers from metadata in the raw file ("camera" white balance), or from averaging a rectangle of pixels that should be neutral gray, or from the "-r" command line option. Multiplying channels can result in clipping. Calculate the white balance by averaging a rectangular area. First do dcraw -j -t 0 and select an area of neutral grey color.-r mul0 mul1 mul2 mul3 Specify your own raw white balance. These multipliers can be cut and pasted from the output of dcraw -v. no white balance optionEstimated Reading Time: 4 mins.

In general terms, setting white balance manually involves taking a photo of something white or mid-gray in the same light which is illuminating your intended subject. Next, you select your camera’s Custom White Balance mode, and tell the camera to use the photo you just took of the white or mid-gray content as a reference. Automatic white balance (AWB) algorithms try to correct for the ambient light with minimum input from the user, so that the resulting image looks like what our eyes would see. Automatic white balancing is done in two steps: Step 1: Estimate the scene illuminant. Step 2: Correct the color balance of the image. Use the Kelvin scale and depending on the light used, use manual values to increase or decrease the values in the Kelvin scale to set the white balance manually. Take test shots to get the most accurate white balance values. You can also use this as a way to creatively use white balance to add mood to your images.

DCRaw with CAMERA WhiteBalance and multipliers had you simply remembered to set WB to the daylight setting OR take a. dcraw decodes raw photos, displays metadata, and extracts thumbnails. By default, dcraw uses a fixed white balance based on a color chart illuminated. In order to load the image with custom white balance settings, set APPLY_COLORSPACE_CONVERSION to FALSE and use Camera Raw Color space Conversion API.
